He said that the JEE Mains exam would be conducted from 18th July 2020 to 23rd July 2020. The JEE Advance paper will be held in August. He also announced that NEET would be held on 26th July 2020. He added that a decision regarding the pending CBSE board exams for class 10th and 12th would also be taken soon.

The engineering entrance test JEE and medical entrance test NEET were postponed in the light of the COVID-19 lockdown. Students all over the country were in anticipation of the postponement and were waiting for clarity.

ABOUT JEE- MAINS, AND NEET

Joint Entrance Examination- Mains (JEE-MAINS) is the most sought-after competitive exam in India that is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to get admission to the engineering colleges all over the country. This exam does not ensure entry into the various Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To secure a seat in IITs, students have to clear the JEE-Advance paper after the JEE-Mains. Only the students who make the cut-off criteria of the JEE-Mains are allowed to appear for the JEE-Advance.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is also one of the most significant exams in the Indian subcontinent that is conducted for admission to the medical colleges across the country. It is considered to be a tough exam.

This year, more than 15 lacs students have registered for the NEET, and approximately nine lacs students have registered for the JEE-Mains.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which comes under the HRD Ministry, has also provided an option to the students to change their exam centers. This decision was taken given the current conditions and travel bans across the states.

A nationwide lockdown was implemented in the country on 24th March 2020, to restrict the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus. Schools and colleges have been closed since 16th March 2020. Because of the rise in the number of infections, the lockdown has been elongated till 17th May 2020.

COVID-19 CURRENT SITUATION

As of today, 6th May 2020, the novel coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 49,000-mark. The staggering rate in which this infection is spreading nationwide has forced the government to extend the lockdown.

The lockdown has resulted in several repercussions in the social as well as the economic front. The shut down of schools and colleges have profoundly affected the students, teacher, and families. It has disrupted the education process.

Schools are encountering a problem to generate income and pay to the staff members, administrators, workers, etc. The uncertainty of the shut down has created a drastic situation. Schools are now moving towards the online learning tactic to keep the education system in continuation.

The national level competitive exams in every sector have postponed, which is causing a lot of problems for the aspirants. The dates of many exams have still not been confirmed. Even the CBSE board exams were disrupted due to the prevalence of COVID-19.

The lockdown restrictions have been spared in several districts of the country, where the cases of the virus are zero to few. The government decided to divide the country into three zones according to the number of cases. The prominence of the disease in these areas was also taken into consideration. These zones are as follows:-

RED ZONE- Where the cases are high and increasing regularly.

GREEN ZONE– Wherever there are zero cases or no cases have proclaimed in the last 21 days.

ORANGE ZONE- The areas do not come under the Red or Green zones.

In the containment zones, there is a strict lockdown, and no activity is allowed. Restrictions are maximum in the Red zones and minimum in the green zones. Although schools, colleges, malls, restaurants, and other public places remain closed all over the country regardless of the zone.

The HRD Minister of India, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, confirmed the dates for the JEE Mains and NEET.
