Events Detail About Ecole Globale International Girls School

The chief guest of the day, Mr.Rana,  Mrs. Rana, President of the Asia Charitable Trust, Mr. Amarjeet Singh Juneja, Directors Mr. Madanjeet Singh, Mr. Tarunjyot Singh and Mr. Gaganjyot Singh, Mr. Eashwaran,  distinguished guests, parents, my colleague staff members and my dear students, Good evening and once again a warm welcome to our 4th Founders’ day.

I am happy to be up on this stage for the fourth consecutive year to read out the Annual Report of the school for the year 2015-16.

Much has transpired within the walls of this beautiful abode in the last one year. It would indeed be a very lengthy and I suspect tiresome exercise for the audience to listen to the nitty grittiness of our progress. It shall be my endeavor to dwell on the highlights.

Adding on to what the President has already apprised you. I’d like to reiterate that in the past year our aim has been to mobilize school resources and strengthen our academic section. Our CIE results of class X and XII have been progressively better. Our third batch of IGCSE took their board exams in March, 2015. Shraddha Sawhney topped the batch with one A*, Two As and Two Bs.

In the second batch of A level students Arushi topped the class. All 6 students have got admissions in colleges of their choice.

Our First CBSE tenth standard also took their exams in March 2015. Chetanya Jinjha topped the batch with a 9.4 CGPA. Our first batch of XII std CBSE is ready to take their board examination in March2016 and we expecting them to do very well.

Many initiatives, including a change in our routine have been put in place to facilitate the board exam classes with more time for preparation and remediation. Our students have now taken other tests like the Asset and the Science Olympiads. We have tied up with Educational Initiatives to conduct the Mindspark program for Mathematics. An arrangement with Aviral classes and Princeton Review enables our girls to prepare for competitive and entrance examinations to various universities. Ecole Globale International Girls School Beside this, classes in communication and remedial help in every subject has been a regular feature of our timetable.

At this juncture, I would like to draw the attention of the parent community to understand that the rapidly advancing world is transforming the way we work and play. It stands to reason that we need to change the way we teach and learn. The focus of learning is shifting to more application by understanding and moving away from a mere test of retention. The 21st-century learners need a broad set of capabilities to heighten their ability to select, shuffle, recombine or synthesize existing facts, ideas, facilities and skills in original ways.

Schools in Dehradun are about much more than the achievement of examination results. A good set of grades is important in that it gives a student access to a wide range of choices. However, it should not be the overriding factor in how a student is to be judged. In an effort to help students know and recognize their aptitudes and make wiser subject choices the school invited Institute of Career Studies, Lucknow, to conduct a career counseling program for the students of classes VIII to XII in the month of April.

Permeating the whole fabric of our school ethos is the intention to create a balance in the curriculum so that it is about inclusiveness, award and risk. There is no better place to learn the much needed skills of collaboration, teamwork, tenacity, resilience and empathy than in a strong co scholastic program.

Our CCA calendar included inter-house competitions in a variety of events like debating, elocution, JAM both in English and Hindi, music, creative writing, etc. As is our own we celebrated the major national and cultural festivals of India. To give the children a sense of respect for every religion we had an all faith prayer meet to commemorate the memory of Gandhiji. In keeping with CBSE directives, Shramdan is a regular feature on Gandhi Jayanti.

Students of our Economics department made us proud yet again this year by winning the second and third places in the young entrepreneur’s event Negotium Agon, at Wynberg Allen School, Mussoorie.

The People’s Theatre group from Delhi conducted a week-long drama workshop for the girls that culminated in a production entitled ‘Shades of life’.

A valuable education is one that takes our children closer to real life and gives them the chance to experience, nay relive it. A step in this direction is to facilitate interactions with achievers from various walks of life. Ms. Ratna Veera, author of the best-seller, Daughter by Court Order visited Ecole to launch her book on 30th April. After reading excerpts of her book she had an interesting interactive session with the students. The junior students of classes VI & VII experienced a book launch at WIC, Dehradun, where they had been for the launch of Mr. Ranjit Lal’s book, My Nana is a nutcase. Dr. Ganguli, The Director of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali spoke to the students about developing a scientific temperament.

The senior students were encouraged to attend the MUN at The Doon School, and the ICan conference at Welham Boys. 6 of our girls will attend a leadership camp conducted by NIIT at Neemrana Fort.

TGELF, the global education and leadership foundation conducted a workshop for staff members of the member schools and followed it up with a series of inter-school events.

We hosted the cultural festival for the Sahodaya Complex of CBSE schools in April. More than 20 schools took part in this grand event.

When the study gets tough, the tough play sport. Our tough young shooters brought laurels to the school at different tournaments. Of the 63 medals bagged by our team at the 14th Uttarakhand State Shooting championship, 27 were gold and 21 silver. Sanyukta Sandhu outdid her own performance at this event. In the 12th Uttarakhand Shooting Championship, our shooting team bagged 36 medals.

Our star shooter, Manya Agarwal took part in the 58th National Shooting Championship at Pune and set a new National record by scoring 335/400 points. She also represented the country at the World Championship held in Shul, Germany and yet again in the World Cup event at Croatia.  She went on to gain the rare honor of being felicitated by the CM of Uttarakhand, Mr. Harish Rawat. Manya was specially awarded and recognized by the MLA of her hometown, Mrs. Hema Malini.

48 girls took part in the District Athletic meet and many athletes bagged several gold and silver medals.

Our small but powerful swimming team did us proud at the Mrs. West Memorial Inter-school Swimming competition at Wynberg Alley by setting a new record in the freestyle relay event.

Not to be left behind our basketball team and the football team has displayed marked improvements in their performances at the district level.

The achievements of our girls, big and small continue to make us proud and inspire in us a shared sense of spirit and motivation.

We at Ecole believe that high-quality outcomes are achieved when leadership is dispersed and distributed effectively across the organization. Opportunities in leadership are consistently provided to the staff to share the responsibility of shaping the future of our wards. Consistent professional development opportunities provided to the teaching community sharpens their skills and assists them in the process of making learning more meaningful.

The Vice Principal and the head of pastoral care have this year been a great support and I would like to acknowledge this with gratitude. I also place on record my appreciation for all the hard work put in by the Dean, the coordinators and the rest of the teaching community. Most of all I appreciate and congratulate the admissions department for their relentless efforts to bring in a record number of positive applicants this academic year. Praise is also due to my secretary for putting up with all my demands and maintaining meticulous records.

I extend my gratefulness to President Mr. Amarjeet Juneja and the Director, Mr. Tarunjyot Juneja for reposing faith in my abilities and enabling me to discharge my duties effectively.

I also take this opportunity to thank the parent community for their supportive role in educating their wards. May I also seek your further co-operation in our efforts to teach our girls to balance human doing with human being.

My beloved students, especially, the batch of 2015-16, I implore you to look forward as best as you can to the future but don’t cease to enjoy to the utmost, the present. Remember, as President Obama once said, no one is born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work- Do not let failures define you, let them instead teach you to become better.
