INCORPORATING THE TEACHING PRACTICES THAT STICK

In the hectic and constantly changing lives today, the coaches and instructors need to amp up their skills to keep up with the latest practices. Teaching is a profession that needs some guidance and training. Several aspects come into play when the educational industry is concerned.

For starting the training for the teachers, the first step is the recognition of the goals. Once the goals have been established, the training and coaching in this particular direction can be provided. Feedback is also an essential part of the training procedure. With the help of constructive feedback, individuals can work on their shortcomings to achieve better results.

Here is how good training can be provided to the teachers.

WEEK 1

The first step is self-introspection. Analyze yourself and ask yourself whether you are a good coach or an effective coach? There is a stark difference between good instruction and practical instruction.

While being an easy-going and fun person is good, but as a teacher, you need to be clear and firm with your instruction. You cannot just walk in a class of students and say that “you might do this or that.” If you are not clear with your message and expectations, the students will not take you seriously and not put sincere efforts.

An effective coach will mention the instructions to the students. They work as a leader. They will say,” To achieve this task, we are required to do the following steps,” or “ I will observe your progress on the grounds of this and this.” So, in a way, you are just subtly commanding the students to follow the particular set of instructions.

Therefore, for a competent coach three elements play a crucial role:-

  1. The clarity in their instructions, expectations, and results.
  2. The quality of the feedback obtained regularly.
  3. Having a fixed mindset that does not get affected under out of control circumstances.

WEEK 2

So now, we need to work on bettering and creating a fixed mindset. Here are the four pervasive factors that affect a fixed mindset:-

  1. Getting negatively affected by the feedback that is not in your favor. Do not degrade yourself and accept your defeat. Take criticism constructively and work on the areas that demand improvements.
  2. Overconfidence and denial is another evil that can affect your coaching quality. Be confident, and accept your mistakes. Do not be in denial of everything, and take the feedback positively.
  3. Playing the blame game has never worked in anyone’s favor. Do not blame the circumstances or anything else for your mistakes.
  4. Neglecting the feedback messages or not paying attention to them is not a good practice. Being an optimist is great, but living in delusions is not helpful.

These four factors can affect your teaching quality significantly. Adopt a growth mindset and motivate your fellow teachers to interact more and more.

WEEK 3

Work on enhancing and improvising the clarity of your instruction. Engage in discussions with your fellow teachers and come up with a broad perspective on excellent education. Develop a practice that is perfect for running the class optimally.

  1. Teachers can help the students to create goals and assign them the tasks pertaining to them.
  2. Students might lose interest several times, and their disengagement is widespread. But they will soon cope up if proper directions are provided, and constant observation is made.
  3. Make sure that all the students are active in the learning process.
  4. Teachers can ask the students to give them feedback on their instruction strategies. Flexibility should be practiced, and teachers can incorporate the changes as per the feedback received.

WEEK 4

The quality of the feedback should be regularly maintained. Hold accountability to your actions and always keeping an improvising mindset. Focus on one thing at a particular time. Set your goals, create your schedule, and follow through your plan.

CONCLUSION

No one is perfect, and the people who are always ready to learn and implement new skills are the ones you gain success. Teaching is a profession that brings new life lessons every day. Therefore, teachers should always work on bettering their skills and strategies.
