The present Republic president of The United States of America, Donald Trump, faced his opposition Democrat candidate, Joe Biden, in the second and final presidential debate. President Trump is contending for his second tenure.
In this second debate, Trump was seen to be less interrupting with the former Vice President Joe Biden but the false claims made were no less. The facts regarding the COVID-19 stats and North Korea were heavily trampled and were presented in a false light. President Trump also went on to allege Joe Biden on various baseless accusations saying that he has profited from foreign business interests.
Joe Biden also mutilated the facts occasionally but not as much as Biden. Here are some fact-checks of the things that were claimed from both sides.
- TRUMP:- 2.2 million people were expected to die from the pandemic.
FACT:- No, 2.2 million people were not expected to die. The early estimates made in March had proclaimed that approximately 1.5 million to 2.2 million people could die of the disease if precautionary measures are not implemented, which includes lockdown. If all the guidelines are followed aptly, and proper steps are taken, this estimate could go down to 100,000 to 240.000.
- TRUMP: Vaccine would be available in a few weeks.
FACT:- The President has claimed many times that the vaccine will be available very soon, most probably before the elections. He also suggested that it would be rushed to completion. Scientists and medical experts have refused such possibility and said that this is a very unlikely prediction. One of the experts said that they are optimistic that the vaccine will be available by the end of the year, but distribution will take some time. Normal life is not expected to be resumed by at least 3rd quarter of the coming year.
- TRUMP:- Said to have taken the strictest actions against Russia.
FACT:– The actions taken by the administration against the Russian espionage in the United States was not the strictest. The decisions like expelling the Russian spies and sanctioning the actors were taken over President’s objections, and many decisions were delayed. He has also abstained from openly criticising the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, despite the actions according to the findings of the U.S. intelligence.
- BIDEN:- Under Obama’s administration, no one lost their medical health insurance.
FACT:- Not everyone was able to keep their healthcare plan, and the 2010 Affordable Care Act did not meet the requirements of all. The new plans were more costly, leading towards frustrations from the general public.
- BIDEN:- Russia meddling with the elections by spreading misinformation.
FACT:- Yes the U.S. Intelligence officials have said that Russia is interfering the Presidential Campaign by pushing a false narrative against Joe Biden, but the evidence is not clear.
Although there were false claims from both the sides, the claims made by President Trump were more contradictory. Compared to the previous debate, President Trump was less interruptive in this debate.
