The Ecole campus transformed into a battleground of ideas on May 1st and 2nd, as fiery minds clashed in the highly anticipated Inter-House Debate Competition. The five Houses, along with a mock team, competed in the preliminary round. The motion for the debate was: ‘Military retaliation against Pakistan is the only way to ensure national security and justice.’ In the Parliamentary format, both the Government and Opposition sides presented impassioned arguments with a blend of poise, data, and, at times, sharp sarcasm. The debates featured razor- sharp rebuttals and remarkable composure under pressure. The audience, loud, opinionated, and fully engaged, cast their votes with applause.
More than just a competition, the event demonstrated that Ecoliers not only have strong opinions but also the eloquence to express them with flair. And, of course, it reaffirmed one undeniable truth: never underestimate a teenager with a mic.
The top two scoring teams, Aqua and Terra, advanced to the final round. The motion for the final was: ‘Schools should adopt a four-day school week.’ Both teams presented well-structured arguments, weighing aspects like balance, midday meals, and other considerations, making for a dynamic and thought-provoking conclusion to the competition.
