    Vhay, I Am Savitribai Phule

On 18th July, our school had the heartfelt honour of hosting the powerful solo play “Vhay, I Am Savitribai Phule!” an experience that touched our hearts and inspired our minds. Brought to life by the acclaimed actress Nandita Patkar and directed by veteran theatre artist Sushma Deshpande, the performance beautifully portrayed the extraordinary journey of Savitribai Phule, India’s first woman teacher and a fearless social reformer, alongside her visionary husband, Jyotirao Phule.

Nandita Patkar’s solo act was nothing short of magical as she seamlessly embodied over 20 characters, transporting us through Savitribai’s struggles, triumphs, and unwavering dedication to education and social change. The simplicity of the stage allowed her raw talent and emotional storytelling to shine, forging a deep connection with the audience.

From the tender moment when Jyotiba first taught Savitribai to read, to their bold steps in founding India’s first girls’ school, every scene echoed their courage and compassion. Particularly moving were the stories of their care for orphans and their defiance of cruel societal norms.

With Savitribai speaking directly to us, the play felt deeply personal reminding us of the power of education, equality, and empathy. It was an unforgettable, soul-stirring experience that will stay with us for a long time.
